Privacy Policy

Newton Family Singers ("NFS," "we," "us") is a volunteer-run intergenerational chorus in Newton, Massachusetts. This policy explains what personal information we collect through newtonfamilysingers.org and our mailing list, how we use it, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect only what we need to run the chorus and sell concert tickets, we never sell it, and we don't share it with other organizations except the service providers that help us do those things.
Information we collect
Mailing list. When you join our mailing list we collect your email address and, if you provide them, your first and last name.
Concert tickets. When you buy tickets we collect your name, email address, and the tickets you bought. Payment is handled by Stripe; we never see or store your full card number.
Member registration. When a singer registers for a season we collect the information on the registration form: names of the singers in the household, home address, email, phone, voice part, volunteer job preferences, and payment status for the season fee. For children who sing with us, a parent or guardian provides this information.
Members area sign-in. If you sign in to the members area, we keep a record of your account and use a cookie to keep you signed in.
Site usage. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are popular. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't track you across other websites, and doesn't tell us who you are.
Messages you send us. If you email us, we keep your message and address so we can reply.
How we use it
- To send show announcements and chorus news to people who asked for them
- To sell, deliver and check tickets at the door
- To run the chorus: rehearsal communications, the member contact list, volunteer assignments, season fees and financial aid
- To understand, in aggregate, how the website is used so we can improve it
- To answer your questions
We don't use your information for advertising, and we don't sell, rent or trade it to anyone.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers who handle information on our behalf:
- Mailchimp (Intuit) sends our mailing-list emails
- Stripe processes ticket and season-fee payments
- Cloudflare hosts the website and provides our visitor statistics
- Google Workspace holds chorus email and documents
Each of these providers has its own privacy policy governing how it protects data.
Other members. Current members can see each other's names and contact details in the members area and through chorus communications, so we can carpool, coordinate volunteer jobs and stay in touch. If you'd rather some of your details not appear, tell us.
Otherwise, we share information only if required by law.
Children
Children sing with NFS, but this website is not directed to children, and children should not submit personal information to us themselves. A parent or guardian registers each child. We never identify children by name in photos we post publicly, and we never tag their images.
Photos and video
We take photos and video at rehearsals and concerts and may post them on this site and on social media. If you'd prefer that you or your family not appear, email us and we'll honor it.
Cookies
The site only uses cookies that it needs to work, such as keeping you signed in to the members area and completing a ticket checkout. Stripe may set its own cookies during payment to help prevent fraud. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep mailing-list information until you unsubscribe. We keep ticket and payment records as long as we need them for our financial records. We keep member information while you sing with us and for alumni contact afterward; ask us any time to remove it.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from the mailing list using the link at the bottom of any email.
- Ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you by emailing us.
- Opt out of photos by emailing us.
Security
We limit access to personal information to the volunteers who need it to do their jobs, and we rely on established providers for payments, hosting and email. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable care to protect what you share with us.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll post the new version here and update the date at the top.
