10th Anniversary Concert: Tom Petty and Fleetwood Mac

It’s our birthday! Tom Petty and Fleetwood Mac burst into musical consciousness in the 1970s with signature songs like “American Girl” and “Don’t Stop,” and continued generating hits in the decades following. Tie on a flowing scarf and come sing along with Newton Family Singers as we celebrate the songs of Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie and more. For ages “Learnin’ to Fly” to “Free Fallin’.”

For our tenth anniversary we gave back to the community that supports us. Representatives from ten local charities came to the concert to raise awareness of how they serve our community, from feeding the hungry to greening our community, from providing companionship to educating our children: AANE, Best Buddies/Team Believe, Centre Street Food Pantry, Green Newton, Newton at Home, Newton Community Farm, Newton Food Pantry, Newton Schools Foundation, Understanding Our Differences and the Waban Library Center. All net proceeds were shared among them, and the audience of roughly 400 made it one of our most highly attended concerts ever.

NFS alumni were invited back on stage to sing the closer, “Don’t Stop.” The program also carried the first excerpts from Jack Cheng’s oral history of the chorus, How to Start a Singing Group.
